Unfortunate incident robs Aylezo Ecotint Racing’s hopes of a podium finish

After an unfavourable round in Zhuhai, team Aylezo Ecotint Racing was back in high spirits to tackle the second round of the 2016/2017 Asian Le Mans Series which now takes us to the picturesque Fuji Speedway. Though shorter than Sepang at 4.563km, Fuji Speedway is still a very technical circuit with 16 corners and an amazingly long straight of 1,100 metres.

Joining Zen Low and Weiron Tan for this round was Riki Chistodoulou and the 28-year-old Briton familiarized himself in the Ginetta LMP3 machine in no time during the practice sessions. The weekend ahead was going to be a challenging one for the team as although Weiron was getting comfortable in the Ginetta LMP3 during practice, he could only manage a best timing of 1:37.678 during qualifying, putting the team at 8th position on the grid to start the race.

Keen to prove his worth, the race started pretty well for the team as Riki managed to climb up to 7th place after a safety car period at the early stages of the four-hour race. But just when things were looking promising for Aylezo Ecotint Racing, bad luck had befallen us once again as a collision with a Ferrari on Lap 10 had forced the team to perform an unscheduled pit stop to check on the damage.

Luckily for us, the damage on the front clam shell was not as extensive as some of us has thought and it was nothing that the skilful hands of the crew could not fix. But it did come with a hefty price. Already falling a few laps behind due to the repairs, the damaged aerodynamics had caused the car to experience extreme vibrations and the team was also given an unpleasant surprise when a front panel bodywork went flying off at the main straight.

The challenges kept on raining towards the team, but we remained steadfast and tackled every single one of them head on until the car crossed the chequered flag at P6. It was not the best weekend for team Aylezo Ecotint Racing, but there was nothing much that we could do after being involved in the incident earlier. The team was also looking at the bright side as we at least managed to secure some valuable points for the championship.

Team Aylezo Ecotint Racing will be travelling to Buriram, Thailand next month in January for the third round of the 2016/2017 Asian Le Mans Series. For more updates on the team and their progress in the season, visit our official Facebook page or our website at www.aylezo.com.
