Shanghai outing rewards Aylezo with two podium finishes

Fresh from the class victory in Korea, team Aylezo Motorsports packed their bags once again for the championship’s penultimate round taking place at China. Round 5 of the series is also the final round that will be held in Asia before they go head-to-head with the Europe and North America series counterparts in the World Finals at Jerez, Spain.

For this round, the race will be held at the 5.451km, FIA Grade 1 track, Shanghai International Circuit. Although Zen Low and Angelo Negro is no stranger to the track, every experience is a new one as not only they might have driven a different car before, the weather could play a big factor as well.

After familiarizing themselves with the 16-corner track on the Free Practice sessions, the duo went on into the Qualifying session with the aim of securing the front rows. The huge boost of confidence brought in from Korea proved valuable to the team as they managed to clock a 2:10.090 for Qualifying 1, placing the team P8 on the grid, P2 in class. For Qualifying 2, they managed to secure P11 on the grid, P4 in class with the 2:12.746.

Getting a clean start, Angelo commandeered the Huracan Super Trofeo EVO skilfully to keep the team’s P2 spot in class during his stint. Keeping a great pace and defence, the team was blessed with a stroke of luck as the lead class runner was slapped with a penalty, allowing Angelo to take the lead. We managed to keep the spot until the pit stop and that was when Lady Luck had gone missing once again. The car had starting issues in the pits and by the time we finally got the car fired up, it had cost us the lead. But the problems were not over just yet as gearbox issues had hampered our pace, dropping us into P3.

It was a tough fight and a bitter sweet moment for the team as we were that close to another win, but P3 was still something to be celebrated and everyone kept their cool for Race 2 happening the next day. The crew worked tirelessly to rectify the gearbox issue overnight and Zen and Angelo were confident to bring home a better finish in Race 2.

Zen wasted no time as the lights turned green and he immediately improved the team’s position on the opening lap as he brought the car up to P3 by Turn 2. Keeping a great pace throughout his stint, the flawless pit stop meant that Angelo was able to continue Zen’s charge and focus on hunting the rivals in front and his relentless charge had rewarded the team with another position gained. Unfortunately, it was so close yet so far as we crossed the chequered flag just three tenths behind the lead class runner.

While it was totally frustrating, two podium finishes for the weekend was a sweet occasion to celebrate, especially when the team now sits in third place in class in the Championship standings. Team Aylezo Motorsports would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support, especially JQK22, J.Cricket, CarZmo, and Chiropractic LLP.
