What was to be a standard shakedown of Aylezo Ecotint Racing’s new Ginetta LMP3 turned out to be a double podium weekend.
In preparations for the start of the Asian Le mans Series, the Aylezo Ecotint Racing team took their newly delivered Ginetta LMP3 race car to the Sepang International Circuit to participate in the final round of the Asian Le mans Sprint Cup.
The plan was to use the track time to shakedown the brand new race machine and collect data. It was important for the team to get as much track time before their race car is sent to China for the opening round of the ALMS.
With Race 1 being declared wet, Aylezo decided to start on slick tyres while the other cars chose wet tyres. The team’s gamble paid off and after the fourth lap the track started to dry out, enabling Weiron Tan to put in some quick laps and climb to third position at the driver change.
Zen Low was comfortable with the car and was able to push hard, passing several cars and eventually finishing a surprising second place, as his car-to-pit radio was not working, meaning Zen was racing without knowing his position.
Race 2 proved to be a little different with the car having some small issues with overheating alarms being triggered inside the car due to the extreme hot weather. Nevertheless the cars pace was still good with Zen and Weiron finishing on the podium once again in third position.
“First I would like to thank the ACO and everyone at Asian Le Mans who have done an awesome job,” said Zen Low. “We weren’t suppose to be racing. We received the car last week and this weekend was just a shakedown to collect as much data as possible. We thought since we’re here already, why not have some fun. Double podiums for the weekend is definitely a surprise for us and I have to say it was the best shakedown ever.”
