Like it has always been since its debut, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia kicks off its 2019 season at Sepang International Circuit and team Aylezo Motorsports are more than ready to tackle the challenge. For this race series, Zen Low is sharing the wheel with Angelo Negro and they will be competing in the AM category.

The car that they will be racing in is a Huracan Super Trofeo EVO that comes with 620-horsepower and 570Nm of torque. While it might seem similar to the previous Super Trofeo race car, the EVO version had received a significant amount of updates in the aerodynamic, performance, and safety departments.

This year’s Super Trofeo will also mark the first time for the race to run under Sepang’s new lighting system, bringing up a whole new challenge even for seasoned drivers. Getting comfortable in their new office, the duo did not waste any time in getting acquainted with their new race machine and went on to clock a best time of 2:09.181 during Free Practice 1. Free Practice 2 brought a different challenge as it was held at night and the track was drying up after a downpour which saw a 2:19.573 being clocked by them.

The feedbacks received from the Free Practice sessions were put into good use and after tuning the car to suit the drivers better, they managed to clock a fastest time of 2:09.088 during Q1, placing the team 5^th in class. Q2 saw a best timing of 2:10.301 being recorded which had placed the team 4^th in class to start the race in.

Starting the race P5 in class does pose a certain challenge, especially when it had rained a couple of hours earlier. But knowing that a podium finish was more than possible, Zen and Angelo would not give up without a fight. Zen started the race with a cool head and managed to overtake a rival during the early legs of the race before passing the wheel to Angelo. The seamless pitstop gave the team an edge and Angelo continued the strong charge by passing another rival. Defending the position to the chequered flag, team Aylezo Motorsports secured their first podium of the season by finishing Race 1 in P3.

After an encouraging finish, team Aylezo Motorsports was looking forward in finishing the weekend with another podium spot for Round 1. The P4 start gave a higher chance of such finish but to get on the podium, one would first have to cross the finishing line. Unfortunately, such task was not a walk in the park for Race 2 as the rivals were not going to give up their position easily. Taking over the wheel after Angelo’s stint, Zen tried his best to catch up with the rival in front but with limited time and tires, there was not much that he could do. Aylezo Motorsports crossed the finish line at P4 and the gap between them and P3 was a mere 0.6 seconds.

It was a tough pill to swallow, but Round 1 started off with a good note and the team is looking forward for Round 2 which will be held at Suzuka Circuit, Japan on the 21-23 June.
